Capacitive Touch Sensor for Starting/Stopping Machines with a Light Touch of the Palm

Machine operators often need to start/stop their factory equipment by simply pushing or pressing large buttons. Traditional mechanical start/stop buttons are widely used, but this equipment is prone to wear and tear. ifm now offers the KT series of capacitive touch sensors, which operate using non-contact sensing and solid-state circuitry. With this design, the KT touch sensor responds to just a single finger or the palm of the hand, giving it an ergonomic advantage.

Designed for a Long Service Life

The rugged housing of the KT series is made of scratch-resistant polycarbonate. These fully sealed devices have a protection rating of IP69K, which prevents oil ingress and allows them to ignore material build-up on the sensing face.

Dynamic and Static Principles for Reliable Operation

ifm offers two types of devices for start/stop control.

The KT sensor with the dynamic principle provides a 300 mS output signal upon being touched. This principle allows the sensor to ignore material build-up on the sensing face and suppresses interference from water, ice, or particles that may adhere to the sensor surface. It can even be triggered when the operator is wearing gloves.
The output of a KT sensor using the static principle remains on as long as the sensing face is being touched.

Simple Installation

The KT touch sensor can be easily installed directly on walls or other areas using a specially designed L-shaped bracket. The discs are available in several colors and can be configured according to functional requirements.
