Robust, industrial-grade O3D smart sensor – provides machines with a third-dimension application assistant.

The objective lens housing is made of Corning Gorilla Glass, defining a large field of view.

4 infrared LEDs can provide illumination for a large field of view within a range of 0.3 to 5 meters, and are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

M12 Ethernet connection for parameter setting and communication outputs data via Industrial Ethernet (TCP/IP; PROFINET; EtherNet/IP).

Two dimensions are no longer enough. They must perceive their surroundings in three dimensions, just like humans.

ifm’s revolutionary O3D smart sensor, aimed at the industrial automation sector, enables automated machines to perceive their surroundings in three dimensions, just like humans.

Innovative pmd imager

ifm’s patented pmd time-of-flight imager provides a 176 x 132 pixel array that can quickly and accurately measure the distance of 23,232 points within the field of view. The distance to each pixel is calculated by comparing the phase shift of the emitted and reflected infrared light. All measurements are captured synchronously and immediately processed into a fully calibrated 3D point cloud, which can be sent to a PC or controller via Ethernet. The technology also includes a patented background suppression illumination technique, making it immune to changing lighting conditions in the application environment.

The O3D smart sensor can act as an application assistant, providing a third-dimension field of vision for packaging and material handling machines. The smart sensor comes with 6 onboard pre-built applications: target object quantity completeness check; case dimensioning; 3D space material level detection; volume usage rate detection; robot-automated depalletizing guidance and robot-automated target object pick-up guidance.
