Reliable transparent object detection

Transparent objects (including thin films, glass, PET plastic bottles, and transparent packaging) are one of the most difficult photoelectric applications. Standard sensors often have too much excess gain, which can penetrate transparent materials. ifm efector offers two options for transparent object detection: the OJ series sensors and the O5 series sensors.

OJ series sensors – compact housing, large detection range

ifm’s OJ series retro-reflective sensors have a small switching hysteresis, making them particularly suitable for the detection of transparent objects. These sensors use innovative technology that allows for easy teach-in pushbutton setup of sensitivity. The teach function enables the product to be adjusted only during installation. This technology also reduces the “co-pilot” effect, a blind spot where the teach-in sensor cannot detect the target bottle on the bottle.

O5 series sensors – detection range up to 3 meters

When used with ifm’s right-angle reflector (order no. E20454), ifm’s O5 series compact polarized retro-reflective sensors can achieve an extremely large detection range of up to 3 meters. This high-precision sensor is designed for inspection and error-proofing applications, with a switching frequency of up to 2000 Hz, making it very suitable for fast-moving processes. The O5 uses a dual-pushbutton teach-in for rapid completion of light-on/dark-on programming. The microprocessor can realize automatic calibration, load detection (PNP or NPN), and switching point adjustment, and provides a dust warning indicator.
