Safety sensor with RFID operating principle, prevents tampering with machine safety guards

New Product! Standard magnetic safety sensors are typically used to ensure machines are in a safe condition, preventing personnel from being injured on the factory floor. However, the possibility still exists for operators to bypass magnetically coded sensors and enter an unsafe environment.

ifm’s MN7 series 2-piece safety sensor uses a solid-state RFID sensing principle. This safety RFID sensor includes an internal reader, and the actuator has a non-changeable, pre-configured embedded code. Because the safety RFID sensor and the actuator are uniquely paired, it is impossible to bypass the safety guard by tampering with its actuator or using a magnet.

A single safety relay can connect up to 32 RFID safety sensors in series. These safety sensors provide 2 OSSD outputs, and also provide one PNP output to indicate which sensor in the series is in an unsafe state.

The uniquely coded safety RFID sensor achieves a Safety Integrity Level and Performance Level of SIL 3 and PL e respectively, and can provide the highest level of anti-tampering protection for machine safety guards on doors, covers, and safety gates.
